“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.” - Carl Gustav Jung.
If there's anything I've learned in this strange year of change and upheaval, is that many of the things I used to worry about...never mattered-AT. ALL .
Truth is:
🔴We're all struggling;
🔴We're all sad;
🔴And we're all uncertain about what lies ahead.
Which got me thinking;
"what are the lessons here?"
"what would I have said to my younger self (if I had the chance), and more importantly,
"what do I want to pass on?"
Below are some of the questions I've been asking myself lately. I refer to them as my "truths"- hard-won; but oh so relevant!!
1. If you had 1 day left to live, how would you spend your last 24 hours?
Let me share a little secret with you; I spent 5-maybe 10 years before I found the courage to just "go for it".
The answer led me to do the thing I most desired -which was to help #femalefounders become economically emancipated.
Admittedly, this may not be your "why"; however, this helps you hone in on your goals.
allowing you to focus on:
What are your values?
What drives you?
What do you want your life to be about?
In gaining clarity about what really matters to you, you'll be in a better position to arrive at authentic decisions - decisions consistent with who you are.
2. If something's too disagreeable - don’t do it.
Let's face it, a large portion of your life (and your business operations), consists of doing really "boring stuff" - but I'm not talking about those things - I'm talking about THESE things:
Toxic Clients/Friends;
Being on EVERY social media platform;
Following the latest "it"!
If, more often than not, you're finding yourself constantly compromising your principles, tolerating any form of disrespect, or having to "make yourself small" for the sake of peace, you may want to start taking a hard look at where you're headed- and make some adjustments.
Pro tip: A great strategy?-smile and say "Let me think about that".
“Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It's about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.”-Brene Brown.
3. Make your life whatever you want it to be
Here's two reasons why people fear authenticity:
1. they care too much about what other people think. and
2. FEAR!!
Both are awful reasons.
Truth is, you don't need anyone's permission OR approval to do what works for you - wanting to do it, is reason enough.
Once it isn't hurting anyone, you do YOU!!
So, cut your hair/embrace your grey hair (oh, that was me!!), learn to skydive, become an author, paint your nails in crazy patterns (me again!!).
Remember, it’s your life – so embrace it!!!
“We have to dare to be ourselves, however frightening or strange that self may prove to be.”-May Sarton
3. Keep an open mind
Our daily routines offer us a sense of safety and comfort.
However, if you're finding yourself slowly becoming a slave to them, and as a result, becoming rigid and inflexible in the process, you may need to check on that.
Consider this: it's never too late to become who you wanted to be all along - someone who embraces different perspectives and keeps an open mind.
4. Trust your gut
Have you ever had a gut feeling about something or someone?
You know, the little voice in your head that guides you, or stops you (or at least tries to) right before you make a mistake?
That's your intuition!!
Everyone has it - although we often ignore it,
Moving forward, I encourage you to learn to trust it - it'll let you know when anything is off - including you.
So that's just a few of the things I've learned and have been reminded of this past year.
I've got a few more-especially when it comes to #smallbusinessowners.
Book a 1:1 session and let me share them with you, along with some strategies guaranteed to help you break free of the confines of overthinking and double-thinking.!!
Are you ready to make that change in your life-and your business?
If you are...let's do it!
